Weighted vests provide soothing, deep pressure. They are often used to aid people with special needs, especially those who process sensory input differently than most. Occupational therapists may recommend weighted vests for people autism spectrum, including those with Asperger’s. Weighted vests are also commonly used to treat kids with sensory integration dysfunction (SID). Others who have seen benefits include those who are hyperactive, who are easily distracted by irrelevant stimuli, those who frequently shift from one activity to another, those having difficulty remaining seated when expected to do so, and possibly those who make noises or talk excessively.
